Line of Service Overview

At PwC, our people in tax services focus on providing advice and guidance to clients on tax planning, compliance, and strategy. These individuals help businesses navigate complex tax regulations and optimise their tax positions.

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior AI Developer to support the delivery of intelligent automation solutions for Tax & Legal Services, including document processing, compliance workflows, and RAG-based retrieval over regulatory data.
You will implement, test, and improve well-defined components under guidance. This role suits someone with strong software fundamentals who wants practical experience in LLM applications, data pipelines, backend APIs, and cloud deployment.
Your work will include Python development, data preparation, prompt and retrieval experiments, API integration, testing, debugging, and technical documentation. Frontend work is limited to lightweight prototypes and internal tools.

Team & Working Style

You will work within a high-impact engineering team in the Tax & Legal AI practice, operating in 2-week sprints. The team follows a structured branching strategy with PR reviews, automated testing, and high code-quality standards.
You will pair with AI and full-stack engineers, receive regular feedback, and collaborate with product owners and Tax & Legal experts. You should ask questions early, communicate progress clearly, and complete agreed tasks responsibly.

Required Technical Skills

Programming Fundamentals
Good working knowledge of Python and core software development concepts. Familiarity with FastAPI, Flask, or a similar framework is helpful. You should be able to write readable code, use Git, debug issues, and learn from code reviews. TypeScript knowledge is a plus.
APIs & Backend Fundamentals
Foundational understanding of backend development, including:
•    HTTP, JSON, RESTful APIs, and client-server communication
•    Request validation, error handling, and API documentation
•    Basic authentication and authorisation concepts
•    Calling external services and handling responses safely
•    Writing small, focused services and reusable functions
LLM & RAG Foundations (Core Focus)
Practical exposure through coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional work in areas such as:
•    Using large language model APIs and understanding their limitations
•    Building a basic Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflow
•    Document chunking, embeddings, vector search, and metadata
•    Prompt design, structured outputs, and simple tool calling
•    Frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel
•    Checking outputs for relevance, grounding, consistency, and failure cases
Data & Storage Foundations
Basic knowledge of:
•    SQL queries, relational data concepts, and simple data models
•    NoSQL databases and vector databases at an introductory level
•    Reading and writing common data formats such as JSON, CSV, and text
•    Object storage, file metadata, and safe file-handling practices

Additional Required Technical Skills

Document Processing & Data Pipelines
Interest in or initial experience with document-heavy data, including:
•    Data cleaning, validation, preprocessing, and transformation
•    OCR and document parsing concepts
•    Metadata extraction and structuring
•    Batch processing and simple asynchronous jobs
•    Multilingual processing; Arabic is a strong plus
Testing & Engineering Practices
Understanding of the importance of reliable delivery, including:
•    Writing unit tests and maintaining clear test cases
•    Using branches, pull requests, and constructive code review
•    Logging, debugging, and investigating data-quality or implementation issues
•    Following coding standards and improving code based on feedback
•    Breaking work into small tasks and communicating blockers early
Frontend (Nice to Have)
Basic familiarity with React / Next.js, HTML, and CSS for creating simple prototypes or internal tools is helpful but not required.
Security & Responsible AI
Awareness of:
•    Protecting credentials, secrets, and sensitive information
•    Access control, data masking, and safe use of test data
•    Prompt injection, hallucinations, and inappropriate model output
•    The need for citations, auditability, and human review in regulated workflows
Cloud, Tools & Deployment
Familiarity with or willingness to learn:
•    Azure services such as App Services, Functions, Storage, and Azure AI services
•    Docker and basic container concepts
•    CI/CD concepts using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar tools
•    Application configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting in shared environments

Additional Requirements

•    Academic, internship, open-source, or personal project experience involving AI or backend development
•    Exposure to Azure AI Search, Azure AI Document Intelligence, or similar services
•    Familiarity with Databricks, knowledge graphs, or data engineering tools
•    Interest in regulated industries such as Tax, Legal, or Financial Services
•    Experience with multilingual or Arabic-language data
•    A portfolio or code samples that demonstrate practical learning are welcome
